About

I grew up in Scotland and have lived in either the UK or New Zealand since 1989. I’ve been based in Auckland since 2004.

My photographic journey started sometime in the late sixties or early seventies, when I joined the school camera club and learned to process my own images. This led to me building a darkroom in the attic of the family home. My first camera was an Ilford Sportsman. In 1973 I bought a brand new Nikon F for £104, and have used Nikon since.

I won’t cite any specific influences, but I started looking at photographic work in the local library while still at school. Personal favourites include Ansel Adams and many others from the black & white era onwards.
